Dear Peter,
There is no transparent quality to FlickrBlockrs. In fact, this creates what we refer to as "A SHIELD" blocking out practically all external reality via sight. We are concerned with "PROTECTING" the FLICKRBLOCKD user from the camera. Moreover, the plexi polymer that we specifically chose to use has a reflective quality. The purpose of this cryptic mirrior is two fold: it reminds the photographer of the inherent problematic qualities of pointing the camera lens away from her by reflecting the "POINT OF IMPACT" to create an unplanned (some might say "TRUE") self-portrait. The other byproduct of the mirror like polymer is that it actually becomes a mirror for the "EYE OF THE BEHOLDER" if you will. What we mean by this is that the reflection actually sits just far enough away from the FLICKRBLOCKD eyes to be overtly aware of oneself. Our first concern was that this would only aide in the insecurity of the user. However, after many field tests we were happy to tabulate data that suggested the opposite: in fact FLICKRBLOCKR uses are comforted by being able to see their own familiar eyes during the FLICKRBLOCKR process. Essentially, FLICKRBLOCKRS aide users by creating a non-documented portrait of the pure soul of the BLOCKR. Some might call this "THE REAL."

matthew from pitchfork here. no doubt, we find this quite, quite hysterical! indeed, we linked to it in our recent story about YACHT playing on a yacht (also hysterical). however, one tiny request, if you don't mind: would it be possible to remove that email auto-reply from amy phillips that's presently listed on the flickrblockrs email page? there are evil people in this world (even some without cameras), and we wouldn't want some of the info in that email falling into the wrong hands!!

I found your product through del.icio.us and it got me thinking. Is there any way you could come up with an all new product that also works on Facebook? I'm sick and tired of startled, deformed pictures of my face getting tagged on my Facebook by fiendish 'friends' with cameraphones and a lax attitude to editorial control.

We were thinking that since you carried your FlikrBlockr project so far, maybe you can just sell our Black Bars on your website instead. You can avoid the hassles of having to produce them yourself and maybe pick up some extra $$. I will supply you with a few dozen up front to have on hand and get you going. Some graphics for your website. Then, I can sell them to you for $2.50 each (when you sell them and re-order them again).
